Still getting settled in around here at DreamWidth. I've been focusing on trying to duplicate my LJ circle as much as possible (obviously not everybody on LJ has a DW account, but of those who do), and have yet to upload a single icon. Which is silly, because some kind anon gave me 2 months of paid time here, and i should take advantage.

It still feels WEIRD to be posting anywhere other than Livejournal. It's been my journalling medium for nearly 10 years, after all. Please note that I'm not abandoning LJ. I've set the cross-post message so people are welcome to comment at either site. Plus, mandragora1 and razycrandomgirl both made excellent points (Mand's under f-lock, so no link) about the DDOS attacks Livejournal is currently experiencing. I realize as I re-read RC girl's post that it's actually a repost of something somebody else wrote, but it's still important. So I'm crossposting and all, but I haven't given up on LiveJournal entirely. I let my paid account there lapse a few months ago, but I think i'll renew it soon, as a sort of 'screw you' to Vladimir Putin. Just not today, because my credit card got lost, and the new one doesn't arrive until Wednesday.

Yeah, I'm not planning on leaving, but when I can't DO anything and feel sort of alone in a wilderness, it's time to start a different journal, so I can at least read my own entries.

That's pretty much my reason as well. LJ was down for FOUR DAYS. I can't function for FOUR DAYS without LJ or a reasonable facsimile thereof.

It does feel odd to be posting here; it's similar enough to LJ for comfort, but different enough for me to know it's not home yet.
Still, it's good to know that if LJ goes down yet again, DW is here, and I won't lose all my friend into the ether!

Yeah, it's similar enough that I have too much of a comfort level. I blithely do stuff just like I would on LJ, and am then pulled up sharp and forced to remember that I'm not actually on LJ. It's different here.

Four days? Yowch. I was away on holiday for nearly all of it, so that's four less days of missing lj than expected.

It sounds like you're doing much what I did after the original big DDOS - got onto Dreamwidth, post on Dreamwidth, cross post to lj. I stick with lj because of the communities I belong to, and because I don't want to give anybody the satisfaction by baling out.

It seems to have varied widely. I couldn't get on for 4 days. Other people had a shorter outage, or only certain functions were out.
