Interesting profile on aboriginal activist and residential school survivor Lulla Sierra Johns. Who in the photo that accompanies the story looks mind-bogglingly like her son, local actor Tahmoh Penikett (known for playing a sweet-natured big lug on "Battlestar Galactica" and a big old mess on "Dollhouse"). Well, she looks a lot like him except for his receding hairline. Anyway, hairline issues aside, it's an interesting article. I suspect, though, given the current fiscal position of the Vancouver School Board, that the new school will be some time in coming. And/or will start out administratively autonomous but physically located inside an existing school, at least for the first few years.

Perhaps when they were on "Dollhouse", Penikett and Eliza Dushku were able to bond, not only over the show's bad ratings, but over their shared experience being raised by activist mothers. Eliza's mum is of course noted Mormon feminist academic Judith Dushku. One wonders what SHE made of "Dollhouse". Sorry, moving on (I'm still bitter that Fox cancelled "Terminator: the Sarah Connor Chronicles" two days after renewing "Dollhouse", even though TSCC was getting better ratings than "Dollhouse"). Besides, I suspect the parents of actors are mostly just grateful when their children are actually employed (and not in porn), what with acting being a pretty chancy profession and all.

I have heard good rumours about Joss Whedon's new project "The Avengers", although that doesn't necessarily prove anything. It's a studio's job to leak stuff that makes an upcoming movie look good. Anyway, apparently it's a comic book movie, so maybe we'll see a little less of Mr. Whedon's Id this time around.

Oh, and if anybody's confused why I would refer to Ms. Johns as a residential school survivor, here's a little more info.
