What do you think Uncle #1 would like for his Christmas present more? Whisky Galore by Compton Mackenzie or Hons and Rebels by Jessica Mitford? I’m aiming for something light and frothy, because his birthday is in early January and I’m getting him Julia Fox’s Jane Boleyn: The Infamous Lady Rochford for that.

I'm not totally wedded to either Whisky Galore or Hons and Rebels (although leaning more towards Whisky Galore because it's less political and more just straight humour). If anybody has any other suggestions, I'm all ears. Thanks!

Edited to add: The people have spoken, and we're going with Whisky Galore.

I'd go with Whisky Galore....I've never read the book but I remember the movie being very funny.

Whisky Galore. I love the book, never seen the film. Fluffy not-actually-an-idiot dropped by my desk a couple of weeks ago to say he'd watched it on the BBC and thought of me. After I enthused abiout the book and Barra (where it actually happened), he left and my (Welsh) manager asked: "Does he think you're Scottish or that you're an alcoholic?"

My manager is awesome.

Whisky Galore, not least because Hons and Rebels gets very much a downer twist towards the end.
