I recently bought Monet, by Zoya, and promptly put it on my nails (as one does). It's a clear polish with big chunks of holographic glitter, and it was not a huge success. The glitter pieces are too big and they don't distribute evenly across the nail. It's now chipped as hell, and I'm taking off what's left of it and discovering that the glitter pieces are virtually impossible to remove with nail polish remover. I'm scrubbing away and not getting anywhere. Grrr arrrgggghhhh! And the funny part is I forgot to put a base coat on. If I had put a base coat on, perhaps it would be even harder to get the damn glitter off.
My whining on the internet about not being able to find Serenity actually had a productive ending. has an extra copy of the DVD and is going to give me hers. Score one for the packrats and the complainers!
I'm trying to decide if I want to spend $8 to get every Maud Silver mystery Patricia Wentworth ever published on Kindle. They've got them in four omnibus volumes at between $1.95 and $1.99 each. If I had them on Kindle, I could get rid of the physical books which are cluttering up the apartment gathering dust. Of course, I should get rid of them anyway, because Patricia Wentworth was not an especially good writer. But they're comfort re-reads every five years or so. I wish someone would publish omnibus editions of Agatha Christie for $8 on Kindle, because I've got loads of Christies cluttering up my shelves. But Christie still sells, while presumably Wentworth doesn't, or they wouldn't be offering this insanely good deal on her books.
Speaking of Christie, I hope her heirs wait a while before starting the Poirot TV cycle over again. David Suchet was getting older and they were running out of books to adapt for him, so I see why they wrapped up. But Suchet is THE iconic Poirot for me, and I don't want to see a new actor for quite some time. I still haven't quite forgiven the Christie estate for the new Marples with Geraldine McEwan and Julia McKenzie, even though the Joan Hickson Miss Marple adaptations were from the 1980's. Hickson is THE iconic Miss Marple for me. Or was, I should say, since she's dead now.
I wouldn't mind seeing new adaptations of Dorothy L. Sayers' Peter Wimsey mysteries, though. Much as I enjoyed the Edward Petherbridge/Harriet Walter adaptations, they were a long time ago, and if done well, could be very entertaining. I've never seen the Ian Carmichael Wimsey adaptations, were they good?

Date: 2015-03-15 08:10 pm (UTC)I'm with you on Poirot. Even though I didn't always agree with the way the scripts were written, Suchet is Poirot to an extent no one has been before.
I watched Hickson's Marple as a child, but I don't remember it well enough to make comparisons. Though I'm a bit grumpy with the modern version for completely missing the point of Edmund Swettenham in A Murder is Announced, even if they halfway made up for it by making the lesbian subtext text. (But they did THAT by deleting Bunch. You can't just delete Bunch!)
