Going to see The Imitation Game on Monday evening, and do you know that the Scotiabank Theatre downtown now allows you to pre-book your seats? Only for certain showings, but still, far more convenient than lining up early to try and get good seats.

I am *not* going to see Mr. Turner, in spite of the stellar reviews. I love J.M.W. Turner's paintings, in fact I have a framed print in my dining nook, and I don't wish my enjoyment of his art to be spoiled by being confronted with him having been a prize jerk as a human being. And the reviews I read made it sound like he was a prize jerk. I try not to know *too* much about the personal lives of people whose work I enjoy, just in case. Yes, technically one should be able to enjoy the performance/artwork/whatever in isolation, but i'm not very good at that.

I do love, however, that Turner left his unsold paintings to the nation in his will, with the legally binding stipulation that they all be displayed together instead of scattered around museums around the UK. It meant most of them sat in storage for a very long time, but when they finally got the money together to open the Clore Gallery at the Tate Britain, they could all be displayed as he'd intended.

I hope everybody is having an excellent Boxing Day, wearing sunscreen if they're in the Southern Hemisphere, and wrapping up warmly in the Northern Hemisphere. I hear in the US Boxing Day is not a statutory holiday, which seems silly to me. How can people be expected to go to work when they're still stuffed to the gills with turkey and cranberry sauce?

Off to use up my gift card to Chapters Indigo (Canadian bookstore with an online arm). Later I may watch The Americans Season 2 and/or Penny Dreadful Season 1, both of which I received yesterday.

Not only is it not a holiday here, it seems like most people don't even know what it is, and more's the pity.

I think a lot of people in the U.S. got today off because Christmas was a Thursday, so no one would get any work done if they came in for a day and then left for the weekend--but if Christmas were on Tuesday or Wednesday they wouldn't get Boxing Day off as a holiday.

Thanks! The icon was my most successful exercise in using Paint to add a Santa hat.

Yep. Here, apparently, it's Return All The Christmas Presents With No Tags, No Receipt, And No Clue Day.
