I have not been on LJ/DW of late, so if anything’s happened that anybody feels I should have commented on, I’m not ignoring you, I just didn’t read the post.

Went to Thomas Haas in Kitsilano on Saturday, an haute bakery, café and chocolatier. Had a very nice cappuccino and a hazelnut macaron. Thought about buying some chocolates, but the prices put me off. $18 plus tax for a box of 9 works out at $2 per chocolate. I’m supposed to be economizing! I didn’t make a special trip out to Kits just to go to a fancy coffee shop, I was in the neighbourhood running errands anyway. They were doing a roaring trade, so evidently Kits is filled with people who are willing to pay $18 for 9 chocolates.

I like Kits, although I could never in a million years afford to live there. Of course, if I did live there, since I don’t drive, I’d be dependent on buses. At least where I live there are trains, even if it’s not near the beach.

Miss Weaver went in for blood tests on Saturday prior to having the general anaesthetic when she has her dental work done in two weeks. Just got a call from the vet saying she’s a good candidate for a general, everything looks great *except* her kidney function. They’re going to do another urine sample when she goes in again, because apparently one bad result isn’t necessarily conclusive. If she has two bad results in a row, then there’s something wrong with her kidneys and they’ll have to look at managing that. I am trying not to worry too much, but failing miserably.

I'm sorry to hear about Young Miss Weaver's blood test result. I hope the next one is better and that she's tickety boo.

I don't know if this will help -- it comforts some people, but not others -- but there are quite a few medical tests where the rate of false positives, compared to the incidence of the actual thing you're looking for, means that most positives are false. That could easily be what the vet is looking at. Sometimes I find it easier to just presume those tests are false positives -- because most of them are, in that scenario -- until I hear otherwise.

And if that is no comfort to you, please ignore, and know that we, too, am hoping that Miss Weaver's second set of results come back sterling.
