Has anybody figured out why John Crichton in Farscape wears a Peacekeeper uniform much of the time? If memory serves, he only switches from his white t-shirt and khaki pants late in Season 1, and that’s for plot reasons (he has to masquerade as a Peacekeeper). But then he stays in Peacekeeper leathers forevermore. From a practical point of view, his white t-shirt and khaki pants from Earth were probably getting a little ripe towards the end of Season 1 (it’s not like he brought a change of clothes through the wormhole).

And I could see him wearing Peacekeeper uniform for a while after he first makes the switch, because there’d probably be plenty of uniforms in storage on Moya, and some of them would fit. But at some point if he’d wanted to go back to civilian clothes, he could’ve bought stuff. It just strikes me as a bit odd, because Crichton is so opposed to everything the Peacekeepers stand for, and yet here he is, wearing their clothes day in, day out. Is it possibly a defense mechanism? Peacekeepers are feared, so random aliens will stay out of his way because he looks like one of them.

I could be overthinking this. Costuming could have simply realized that Ben Browder looked good in Peacekeeper leathers, and elected to keep him in them for shallow reasons. Who doesn’t want the star of their show looking cool? I think I can feel a Farscape rewatch coming upon me. Which is irritating, because I have so much new TV to catch up on. But the heart wants what it wants, people!

If someone is mentally incapacitated, but didn’t sign a Do Not Resuscitate form before they became incapacitated, is it obligatory for a hospital to provide heroic measures, or can they follow the guidance of the next of kin? Just wondering what happens to people who have Alzheimer’s and so forth and didn’t make provision ahead of time. I suppose this kind of thing varies widely from one jurisdiction to another.

I always thought the point of him wearing a Peacekeeper uniform was supposed to be a nod at his assimilation. After all, before too long Aeryn grows to oppose everything the Peacekeepers stand for, too, but she still wears the uniform throughout the show. It's probably what you said above, wearing the uniform just makes his life easier as he moves through the galaxy, and the more people that mistake him for Peacekeeper the fewer people might find out he's not even Sebacean. Also, I know they showed some independent Sebacean colonies, but they seemed to be surprisingly few and far-between, which leads me to believe that a disturbingly large portion of that entire race is actually in the Peacekeepers in some form or other, which makes sense since that was what their race was created to do. Hmm, I don't know. I mean, on a meta level I'm pretty sure it's just that Ben Browder is incredibly attractive in them- I remember some interview where Claudia Black said she liked to drop things on set all the time so she could watch him pick them up, she said it was one of the main perks of her job- but I always thought that the in-text reason was basically that he was assimilating into things he didn't approve of, and that was just another part of his fucked-up life. Oh! and he also used Peacekeeper weapons almost exclusively, which would make using a Peacekeeper uniform easier since they were designed for certain weapon harnesses.
