I think I may need to revise my tastes in non-fiction. My mum asked me what I've been reading lately, and I said, "Well, I just finished Dead Wake, and just started Shake Hands With the Devil." My mum at first thought they were mystery novels, so I explained they were non-fiction, and then she started laughing at me. She said it's hardly surprising I'm depressed, given the books I read.

Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania, by Erik Larson is very good, very thrilling even though I already know the ending (rocks fall, everybody dies).

And Shake Hands With the Devil: The Failure of Humanity in Rwanda by Lieutenant-General Romeo Dallaire (now Senator Dallaire) is starting out very interestingly even though I suspect it will get horrendously depressing later on.

Any good books out there (in English) about the White Rose? I am contemplating ordering the DVD of Sophie Scholl: The Final Days, but worried that it might depress me. Any suggestions, any better movies or books out there, etc?

Oh damn, my mum was right!
