May. 3rd, 2016 07:05 pmSomeone I consider a friend got some very bad news recently, and I just found out about it. So that SUCKS for her.
I am frantically reading Steve/Bucky fic in the run up to seeing Captain America: Civil War in a few days, just on the off chance that it sucks so badly it tarnishes my feelings for the characters.
I opened my blister pack and then stubbed my toe, sending the blister pack (and more to the point, tonight's sleeping pills) flying. I lacked all dignity while crawling around on the floor looking for my sleeping pills under the bookcase. The cat looked at me in a judgmental manner. On the bright side, I didn't chip a toenail after my pedicure on the weekend. After the pain subsided, that was my first worry.
Naomi Novik's new book "League of Dragons" is out on June 14, and I am conflicted about that. On the one hand I'm excited, but on the other, what if it sucks? It's the very last book in the Temeraire series, so if it sucks, Novik has no room left in which to write her characters a graceful exit. I should trust my author more, but while some of the Temeraire books have been sublime, others have been...not that good. It happens to every author, particularly when they're writing a series. But yeah, I'm super-invested in the final book being a good send-off to the characters (both human and dragon) I adore.
I started Juby Warrick's "Black Flags: The Rise of ISIS" and as I suspected, it is indeed depressing. I gave up partway through the second chapter, and will start again when I'm in a better mood.
