Aug. 10th, 2015 06:25 pmHuh. They've released Blu-Rays of the Joan Hickson Miss Marple adaptations, and in Region 1, no less (North America). No idea what the quality of the video transfer is like, as I already have them all on DVD. But if you don't have them, they're well worth a look. I personally much preferred the Hickson Miss Marples to the new Marple series with Julia McKenzie and Geraldine McEwan. For one thing, the Hickson ones didn't GRATUITOUSLY CHANGE THE PLOTS, including in certain cases CHANGING THE IDENTITY OF THE MURDERER just to try and sex things up.
I know people who really like the new Marples, and that's okay, you're allowed. I won't think you're evil or anything. But I'm still bitter that Christie's estate let the producers fuck around with the plots. The plot is the whole POINT of an Agatha Christie novel. Ahem. I may be just a teensy little bit irrational on this subject. As you were.
Anyway, they're not cheap, but they're really good, so if you enjoy a good Christie, haven't seen the Joan Hickson adaptations, have a yen to see them in HD, and have a chunk of spare cash, here's your chance.
