I am a posting machine today!

I first found out about this song a few months ago, when legionseagle linked to it on the BBC website. Alas, I got an error message because I was an overseas viewer. Tonight I had a brainwave: what if it's also on YouTube. With no further ado, I present The Cousin Song, from a BBC children's program called Horrible Histories. I know, I know, it's kids programming but it's also simply frelling HILARIOUS. Go click, it'll take like 90 seconds, you'll laugh your ass off, and you'll know more about the Frightful First World War than you did before.

I bought Glory, the Academy Award winning song from the movie Selma, and I love it. Which is odd, because rap music usually leaves me cold.

I have never figured out if I don't like rap because I don't like rap, or if I don't like it because I wasn't exposed to it at the right age. My school was very multicultural but had virtually no black people. I was exposed to bhangra music by South Asian friends at the right age and I appreciate that to this day.

Anyway, Common's spoken word duet with John Legend on vocals really works for me, and I suspect it's because of the explicitly political content of the rap. Anybody have any recs for artists or specific songs that are also explicitly political?

Today was officially one of THOSE days, and tomorrow will likely be worse. What is it Will Stanton gets told in Susan Cooper's The Dark is Rising? "Tonight will be bad, and tomorrow will be beyond all imagining." I loved that book when I was a kid. Read it until the spine broke, quite literally, and the pages fell out of the spine. I haven't re-read it for years.

Young Miss Weaver has been throwing up on and off for the past few days, and I'm getting really tired of cleaning up after her. She doesn't go outside, so she can't have eaten something that disagreed with her. I'm trying feeding her a teaspoonful of food every hour or so and seeing if it stays down. And changing her water a lot because it's easy to get dehydrated when you're vomiting. I'm playing the part of the conscientious cat staffer, but on the inside I'm really mad at her for being inconsiderate enough to get sick and make me step in it. She doesn't usually have a delicate stomach, nothing like one of her predecessors, the late, great Bulimic Supermodel. BS was a Balinese (think Siamese but with longer fur), and he was *gorgeous*, with deep blue eyes like sapphires. But boy did he ever love to throw up. I don't miss that about him, and I don't need YMW following in his footsteps.
