Gakked from [personal profile] slippery_fish, it seems that the fifth installment in Ben Aaronovitch's Rivers of London series, Foxglove Summer, will be coming out in 177 days. Not that I'm counting or anything.

In other news, I did indeed get my hair chopped off, just as I threatened. When you go from shoulder-length to an asymmetrical pixie cut, you end up with a LOT of hair on the floor. Who knew?

[personal profile] chaila on the interactions between Sarah Connor and James Ellison in Terminator: the Sarah Connor Chronicles. Spoilers for the whole series, still sadly cancelled. One day I'll get over that.

[personal profile] pocochina on free will, agency and consent for fictional characters. References several TV shows, but not spoilery, provided you don't click on the links.

[personal profile] legionseagle is still following the Lib Dem sexual harassment scandal in the UK. Fascinating stuff. Perhaps a little depressing, but fascinating.

[personal profile] selenak on Episode 1.04 of Sleepy Hollow, the one with the Hessians (spoilers for that ep). And more generally she talks about the *real* Hessian mercenaries of the 18th century. She also critiques the abysmal German accents. I'm trying to think of anybody on TV who did successfully pull off speaking German on screen without looking like a moron, and the only example I can think of is Boris Kodjoe in the short-lived, much-lamented spy caper series Undercovers.

But I discover from Mr. Google that Boris Kodjoe was born in Vienna to a German mother and Ghanaian father, and grew up in Germany, so it's hardly surprising that he can speak his native language without mangling it. I'm much more surprised now that his American accent didn't slip in the show. I never had a clue he wasn't an American actor. Good-looking *and* talented. Oh, and irritatingly enough, it seems that Undercovers was never released on DVD. Weird. Even short-lived shows usually get a DVD release.

I should note that I don't speak German myself, but I have several German-speakers on my f-list/dwircle, and they tend to mention it when people are mangling German on TV or in the movies. Like on Sleepy Hollow. Which is still a very fun show, in spite of the operetta Germans, as [personal profile] selenak wittily calls them.

Speaking of German, I'm going to see Sequentia this week. I am excite.

In Vienna Teng's Whatever You Want, did anybody ever figure out who actually blows the whistle on the corrupt company? Is it the crooked CFO himself, or his neglected wife? I *think* it's the wife, but the lyrics are a little ambiguous. Terrific song, very catchy, but there could be a reason Vienna Teng has yet to achieve a big commercial breakthrough. The singers who make tons of money and end up ubiquitous all over the radio tend to sing about love, not about corporate corruption.

Off to bed now. My short hair and I need an early night.
