Dec. 6th, 2013 06:11 pmIt's so flipping COLD outside. Apparently, with the wind chill factored in, temperatures will drop to - 15 tonight. On the bright side (literally), the sun shines every day, but it doesn't make up for the cold. I live in a soggy temperate rainforest precisely because I want to *avoid* extremes of temperature. Where the frell has my temperate rainforest run off to, and when exactly is it coming back? I realize that to people from other parts of the world, or even other parts of Canada, - 15 is nothing. But to us coastal wimps, it's something.
I am reading Shooting Victoria: Madness, Mayhem and the Rebirth of the British Monarchy, which is an account of the seven assassination attempts made on Queen Victoria during her lifetime. Obviously none of them were successful, hence her dying of old age in her bed. BUt it's a really fascinating read. Did you know that apparently 95% of death sentences were commuted in the 1830's? I didn't until now.
Also, the other day I had chai tea at an Indian restaurant and it was SO good. I've had chai tea lattes at Starbucks before (I know, I know) and I've made chai tea at home before, but I never cared for it. So I never bothered to order it whenever I went to an Indian restaurant, because why order something I already know I don't like? The other night I was waiting to pick up my take-out order, and the waiter offered me a complimentary chai tea while I was waiting. And it was delicious! Of course, if I were a little more adventurous, I might have made this discovery twenty years ago.
Off to think warm thoughts and resolutely avoid thinking about my heating bill.
