Whoever designed the new Purdy’s chili pepper bonbon is an idiot. I’ve tasted chocolates with chili pepper in them before (admittedly not often), and it’s always either powdered or liquid and mixed in with the chocolate ganache filling. You get a memorable warming taste, but it’s not all, “Ack, glass of water now!” Purdy’s has just taken their dark chocolate (admittedly their dark chocolate is good) and mixed in small strips of dried chili pepper. You can *see* the strips. And they set your mouth on fire.

Did they just decide, “Oh hey, people who shop at trendier and more expensive chocolatiers than us like chili pepper, so let’s throw in a chili pepper chocolate!” or did they do some research? Please note that Purdy’s does a lovely dark ganache which they often combine with other flavours for their truffles etc. They have the equipment to do a good chili pepper chocolate, they just don’t seem to have the interest. In totally unrelated news, I have been PMS-ing up a storm and attempting to self-medicate with chocolate.

I’m beginning to see the appeal of Twitter. Mostly because on Election Night it updated just as fast or faster than the live news blogs various websites were running. And the tweets had personal quirks attached. Speaking of Election Night, that went down to the wire, huh? As a Canadian, I am theoretically unaffected by the elections, but let’s face it, the USA is such a big country (not to mention our biggest trading partner), it affects me a little as well. Also, it looks like Obamacare will continue, which is good news for Americans in my circle who will no longer be completely and utterly screwed, healthcare-wise, if they lose their jobs. I realize Obamacare has problems (heck, the Canadian system has problems), but it’s better than nothing at all.

Also, pro-gay marriage ballot initiatives passed in four states, which is unbelievable when you consider 2004 with all its DOMA amendments was only 8 years ago. Plus, the US now has its first openly gay Senator (Wisconsin’s Tammy Baldwin). Also, according to the BBC News, the House of Representatives now has its first black female Republican Mormon congressperson. They didn’t actually give her name, though. I saw a little bit of Obama’s victory speech, but then turned off the TV and went to bed. Didn’t catch Romney’s concession speech at all. How was it?

I am reading Terry Pratchett’s “Snuff” and so far it’s kind of slow going. I really hope this isn’t THE book. You know, the one which proves the Alzheimer’s is affecting his skill as a writer. Which is silly, because it’s not like the book is actively bad so far, it’s just slow. I had these same neuroses about “Unseen Academicals” and that one turned out fine.

Young Miss Weaver has acquired a gentleman caller. He is a handsome all-black fellow with a red collar, and he’s about twice her size. He cavorts on the patio and she goes unhinged with rage. She considers the patio her property, even though she’s an inside cat. His owners seem to keep him in at night, though, because all his visits have been during the day. Just as well, because I’m sure I couldn’t sleep through the racket YMW makes when he comes by. If I were a good pet minion, I’d shoo him away, but it’s kind of fun watching YMW lose her tiny mind.
