I just read the most wonderfully hilarious and touching short story, all about a baby werewolf with two mommies. It starts out a little slow, but then it really gets going. The Cage, the whole thing, not just a teaser, is up at the Tor Books website. And if the story charms you, A.M. Dellamonica has written two full length novels as well, Indigo Springs and Blue Magic. Although the baby werewolf does not appear, and nor do his kickass mommies (sadface from me). Full disclosure: I am acquainted with A.M. Dellamonica, also known as [profile] planetalyx. But I’m not just pushing her stuff because I know her, I promise. You can judge her work on its own merits, after all, with the story being up at the site.

I am currently annoyed at my boss and a co-worker over something really petty. So petty I’m not going to bring it up to them and *appear* petty, but inside I am all grumbly and caustic. It’s a good thing nobody at the office can read minds. That I know of, that is.

[personal profile] legionseagle brought my attention to story about a really bizarre fraudster. As LE says, the person writing the expose handles it with a certain amount of sensitivity, despite the bizarre subject matter, and avoids a “look at this freak” tone. Bear in mind that there have been real world consequences to Matthew Brown’s fantasizing: people defrauded of money, student barristers promised jobs that never materialized, a man’s political career severely harmed. On the bright side, this guy was NOT involved in any fandom, that I can tell. The bizarre fraudsters exist outside of fandom as well!

Attention Hunger Games fans (well, technically Catching Fire fans), [personal profile] sabaceanbabe has written a lovely little piece of Mags backstory about her Games, Lions, and Tigers and Bears, oh My.

What is the code for linking to someone’s Dreamwidth account in a post? For Livejournal, it’s [lj user=] with < and > replacing the [ and ]. But if I do [dw user=] or [user=], nothing shows up.

[personal profile] coffeeandink has a great and extremely funny dialogue going with [personal profile] oyceter that explains her grave misgivings about certain villain-related developments in Iron Man 3. A movie I won’t be going to see, from the looks of things. I very much enjoyed the first Iron Man movie, but the second one’s plot was held together with frayed duct tape, and had a lot of casual misogyny (to be fair, the first one had casual misogyny too, but it was a better movie, so I put up with it). However, I'm sure people in my circle/flist will be seeing it, so if the writers pull off a minor miracle and make it non-squicky, I'll be there with bells on. Also, [personal profile] coffeeandink is very equal opportunity. She has one serious post criticizing the movie like whoa, and one squee post for everybody who's super-excited about the movie anyway.

On a related note, apparently Robert Downey Jr. and his wife have two rescue cats. Speaking as a cat minion with a rescue of my own, I am happy about that. The maternal unit was in the pet food store recently with the Venus Flytrap. Another shopper wanted to pet him, and he did his usual cringe-and-hide routine. Mum explained he was a rescue with a troubled past, and the shopper immediately melted. Opened the bag of dog treats she’d just bought for her own dog, and started feeding them to VFT instead. With her own dog looking on, full of jealousy. So then Mum had to open her own bag of dog treats, bought for VFT, and feed some to the shopper’s dog. No wonder this store makes a mint on dog treats.
