So, the maternal unit is looking to adopt a small dog but the recent Cruella de Vil-style antics of a certain local rescue organization have left her deeply worried. I am seeking recs for REPUTABLE dog rescue organizations in the Greater Vancouver/Fraser Valley area with small dogs available. Small basically meaning 30 pounds or less. If you don't know of any here, she is willing to go as far afield as Victoria, the Sunshine Coast or Western Washington down as far as Seattle. The maternal unit is entirely willing to provide references, etc. attesting to her fitness as a dog owner. She is an apartment dweller, though, so has no backyard for the dog to run around in.

She also has a weakness for one-eyed dogs with food allergies, but that's not a deal-breaker for her. It's just that Tiny Attack Dog (recently deceased) had one eye, and Ugly Dog (TAD's predecessor, deceased some years ago) had food allergies, and the maternal unit herself is blind in one eye and has food allergies. There's a certain synchronicity there, but it's not a requirement by any means. No cosmetic surgery necessary if a suitable dog has two eyes.

My personal preference would be for her to wait to adopt until she retires in summer 2012, at which time she'd have more time to devote to her new dog, but that would make her dogless for an entire year (TAD died this summer, 2011) and she's having a hard time coping with a dogless existence. Alternately, if you know of someone who's looking for a TEMPORARY home for a small dog, that might work too. Say if someone's going abroad for a period of a few months to a year, needs a good home in the meantime, my mum could assuage her dog lust, and by the time the owner retrieves their dog, she's already retired or near enough to it she can hold out a wee bit longer.

If you are not local yourself but have people in the above mentioned geographical areas on your circle/f-list, please feel free to signal boost. Please note I've known the unit for 35 years and the lifespan of several dogs. Any dog she adopted would lead a very pampered existence.

Insomnia sucks. Still testing out this LJ app for Aeryn Sun. It seems to think Aeryn can post pictures. And it seems to work on DW pretty nicely as well. Meet Miss Savannah Weaver MyLastName.
