Nov. 5th, 2011 12:00 pmSo, apparently the world now has seven billion people. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure some of them will be BREATHTAKINGLY STUPID, just going by the law of averages. And some of them will attempt to send viruses through the mail.
I had chickenpox the old fashioned way as a child (also rubella, a.k.a. German measles, although I never was clear why we blamed that on the Germans). I did not have any complications, but it DEEPLY SUCKED all the same. And of course, I am now at risk of developing shingles in middle age. If vaccinations for chickenpox had been available when I was the right age, I would have been really, really mad at my mother if she'd chosen not to vaccinate me, but to send me to a pox party instead. As for these idiots who are sending pathogens through the mail, words fail me. I mean, that's a whole different LEVEL of stupid.
I have safeguarded the last of my boxes of Purdy's intended for the overseas relatives from myself by the simple expedient of putting them in the bubble mailers and sealing them up. Chocolate, especially expensive chocolate, lures me like unto the siren. But I paid good money for those bubble mailers and if I slit them open, I probably can't re-use them. Yes, I know the choir is selling Purdy's as a fundraiser, and I fully intend to buy some for local gifts (and for myself, let's bw honest). But the delivery date is too late for my overseas parcels. They should go out by the beginning of November in order to arrive in time for Xmas, as I'm cheap and send them Surface Mail instead of Small Packet Air. Technically it's already November 5th, but hopefully they'll arrive on time. And not nibbled on.
Speaking of it being November, I still have the faintest dregs of begonias and kalanchoe on the patio. I don't think they've ever lasted quite this long in previous autumns. It's so weird looking out and seeing actual flowers this time of year (albeit pretty bedraggled looking).
I rented "Thor" and it was...okay, I guess. Far from the worst superhero movie I've ever seen, but fairly paint-by-numbers in execution. Given that it was directed by Kenneth Branagh, I was expecting it to be a little less routine. Tom Hiddleston as Loki was fun, though.
I'm not turning off comments, but I can't promise to answer them. I'm attempting to pre-empt any comment guilt by warning people ahead of time.
