As far as I gather from UK coverage it's a case of crank magnetism - M'Bala M'Bala started off with perfectly respectable pro-Palestinian views, became drawn into "laws against Holocaust denial are an unacceptable abuse of free speech" campaigning, and then went completely off the deep end.
