Well, shit. It was just announced that Carrie Fisher has died. Obituary from the Guardian. Her poor family.

The weird part is I had bought her latest book, The Princess Diarist, only a few days before she was announced to have had the heart attack and been admitted to hospital. Somehow it feels wrong to read it now, even though she was a wonderful and savagely witty raconteur.

Oh no! I was really hoping she'd pull through.

Yeah, I was hoping that too. 2016 has been an absolutely BRUTAL year when it comes to deaths of talented people working in the arts.

I feel awful for her mother (outliving your own child is terrible), brother and daughter. And the first thing that popped into my mind when I read the obit was, "I wonder what's going to happen to her dog Gary."
