Um, if you're a big Boris Johnson fan, maybe don't read the linked post just above. Or possibly fans of Boris Johnson should be reading it extra specially hard, with close attention to detail.

And for any Margaret Thatcher fans on your reading list, I can add this from Bernard Ingham, her press secretary sent to one of the campaigners:

Thank you for your letter of June 13. I am sorry you are disgusted with the uncomfortable truth about the real cause of the Hillsborough disaster. It is my unhappy experience to find that most reasonable people outside Merseyside recognise the truth of what I say.

All I get from Merseyside is abuse. I wonder why. You are at least right in believing that you will have to put up with my discomforting views. I cherish the hope that as time goes on you will come to recognise the truth of what I say.

After all, who if not the tanked up yobs who turned up late determined to get into the ground caused the disaster? To blame the police, even though they may have made mistakes, is contemptible.

Fucking hell. Seriously, though, FUCKING HELL. How in the wide world does a press secretary, of all people, end up writing such a horrible letter to a VOTER? Public relations folks are supposed to be diplomatic. And here I thought things were polarized under the Harper regime in Canada, but evidently I was wrong and there is a whole new level of polarization that can be achieved. Bernard Ingham's response is straight out of the Donald Trump playbook.

Incidentally, I've really got to stop checking email in the middle of the night. I woke up about half an hour ago and went to the bathroom. Then just before going back to bed I decided to check my phone and read your comment. And suddenly I was astonished, furious, and wide awake.
