Some people are such *idiots*. I took Venus Fly Trap for his last walk before I went to bed last night. Lots of noise from Hallowe’en fireworks and firecrackers, so I knew he’d be very nervy once we got outside. So we go for our walk, and I end up with a baggie to take to the dumpster in the alley. So we go into the alley, and I’m fumbling with the dumpster lid while I’ve got the dog on the lead, and some teenage idiots let off a firework maybe 10 feet away from us, right in the middle of the alley. It gave me a fright, and VFT went galloping in the opposite direction.
Fortunately he’s a small dog who doesn’t weigh much, and I had a firm grip on the lead, or he probably would’ve pulled the lead out of my hands and gone dashing straight into the road to get away from the firework. I yelled at the teenagers to let off fireworks in their driveway instead of in the communal alley, but they just laughed. I suppose it could’ve been much worse. VFT could’ve been injured, or he could’ve run away. But it was a little scary. And then I had one of those nights where I kept waking up, thinking I heard fireworks. Sometimes I really had heard fireworks, and sometimes not. Grump, grump, grump.
