Gakked from [profile] delux_vixens, How Syria Turned Off the Internet. And from [personal profile] badgerbag, another report, Why Syria's Desperate Move to Cut Communication Won't Succeed.

I had a horrible dream last night that I adopted a dog. It wasn't a horrible dream *because* I adopted the dog, bear in mind. I'm very fond of dogs, and if my health were better, would consider having one of my own (a dog is a lot more work than a cat). Nonetheless, it was a horrible dream, and I had this damn dog to worry about on top of whatever was chasing us. One of those dreams where you're very happy to wake up.

Ever since I installed the new operating system on Aeryn Sun (my phone), all my music playlists have disappeared. They're still there on John Henry (my laptop), so it's not like they've vanished into the ether, but I'd like to be able to listen to my playlists on Aeryn sometime. I was supposed to go to the Genius Bar (stupid name) this afternoon, but my period started unexpectedly last night, and I ended up rescheduling.

Having reread His Majesty's Dragon/Temeraire several times (I hate it when books have different titles in different countries), I am now rereading Throne of Jade. Also rereading Frank McLynn's Napoleon to get a refresher on the REAL Napoleonic Wars. I know Peter Jackson optioned the movie rights to Temeraire, but is there any chance that the movie will actually get made? It sounds like it would be very expensive, with all the dragons to CGI in. But Jackson does rather specialize in adaptations from books with cult followings, featuring lots of CGI creatures.

Ugh, horrible dream. The last I heard, it was supposed to be Peter Jackson's next project after he was done with the Tolkien stuff. Now that the Hobbit's been split into three movies, though...

I'm guessing a lot of padding and walking through New Zealand scenes.

Wait, it's *three* movies now? I thought they were stretching it with two, to be honest...

Yes, though, it's supposed to be his project after that.

They're including a lot of stuff from the Appendices (the ones you can always horrify a Tolkien fanboy by not merely having read but having applied logic to - which is where the crack about Dwarf women having beards, used both in Pratchett and in Jackson's The Two Towers comes from) so that unlike the original Gandalf doesn't simply get them to the gate of Mirkwood, mutter vaguely, "Places to go, people to see" and vanish from the action for the next 100 pages or so. Personally, the bit I wish they'd include is the backstory for why Gandalf refers to Bilbo's mother as "my poor Belladonna" but that seems destined to be lost like the Entwives.
