The other replies I've received suggest that iTunes is not the way I want to go, owing to the fact that you basically are just leasing the content, you don't actually OWN it. I like owning stuff.

But that's very useful to know about the HDMI cord. I connect laptops to projectors and videoconference systems all the time at work, so theoretically I could do it at home too.
