Dumb question: would a British subject living in another country have been subject to conscription starting in 1939?

The (dumb) reason I ask is that I've just been re-reading The Labours of Hercules, which Agatha Christie published shortly before WWII started. And I got to thinking about Nicky Rossakoff, who was presumably a naturalized British subject, but was working as an engineer in America when his mother's story takes place. Would he have been required to travel back to Britain and get conscripted after the war broke out, or were the conscription authorities fully occupied dealing with men of the right age who actually lived in the country? Of course, I'm sure he would've been drafted by the USA after 1941, but in that interim period when Britain were fighting alone, would he have had to go back? Of course, he might have volunteered to go back, who knows?

I have no idea why I'm wondering about the conscription status of a character who doesn't actually appear in the Labours of Hercules, only his mother does. He is merely mentioned several times.

Another dumb question: would someone who's been in a vegetative state for a long time still be a suitable organ donor? Say someone suffered massive head injuries in a car crash and was brain-dead, but their family didn't want to let go. Eventually the family decided to turn the life support off, could the person's organs still be used for transplant purposes?

Edited to add: Question answered. I debated deleting this paragraph altogether, because I was just asking out of ignorant curiosity, but there are obviously going to be people on my f-list/dwircle who have painful first hand knowledge of the difference between brain death and a persistent vegetative state, etc.

In an effort to economize, and impose some damn discipline on myself, I have de-linked my credit card information at Amazon, iTunes and Paypal. I've fallen into bad habits over the past six months, buying books I could get out of the library, buying music I don't really need, buying nail polish over the internet, donating money I can't really afford, etc, etc. It all adds up.

I currently have no credit card, because I gave mine to the maternal unit on the weekend when she was visiting. I bought a bunch of cat food on credit card right before YMW started throwing up again. Anyway, I bought it when I was visiting her in the 'burbs, because carrying the economy sized bag of Orijen dry food home from my local pet supply store on foot is not my idea of a good time. So she's going to return everything, and then give me back my card this coming weekend. It's oddly freeing, not having access to a credit card at all. And oddly frightening at the same time.
