Aug. 11th, 2013 10:54 amThe heavens just opened and water poured forth. Also thunder and lightning. It's August, for Pete's sake. I think I'll wait to go grocery shopping until hte rain stops.
Went to an Early Music Vancouver performance at UBC last night, featuring Suzie LeBlanc in surprisingly subdued mode. LeBlanc is one of the top baroque sopranos in North America, and she's got one hell of a set of pipes on her, so I was surprised. No, louder is not always better, but she wasn't all that great even when she was *supposed* to be quiet. Maybe she's coming down with something. My mum went to Handel's opera "Israel in Egypt" in midweek, and LeBlanc was in magnificent form then, apparently.
I am finally starting to feel better from this horrendous cold. Thank God, and about bloody time.
Mum has informed me that she's not going to Holland end of August after all, she's going early October instead. I am still on dog-sitting duty, however, so it's a duty postponed rather than avoided. *I* find Venus Fly Trip charming (if a little half-witted, but that's the nature of the Shih Tzu. Bred as lapdogs for centuries, and nobody was breeding for brains. They're a long way off from the ancestral wolf). Young Miss Weaver, however, does not care for dogs one tiny little bit. She skulks at the other end of the room, and glares at him and me impartially. Him because he's a dog, and me because I brought this dog into HER house. It's definitely her house, I just pay the bills. Cats!
The rain seems to have stopped in the time I've been blithering away. Off to get dressed.
