In or near Maryland, and know someone who's looking for feline companionship?

Gakked from [personal profile] shezan, these two kitties are looking for a home together. They're in Germantown, Maryland (southern Maryland, near Washington, DC), but their foster mother is willing to drive any reasonable distance to get them placed in a good home. One of them only has one eye, but they're otherwise perfectly healthy...

P.S. If you are not in the right area but feel like signal-boosting, please do. There are adorable pictures at the link.

A mixed bag of links, some serious, some fannish and/or funny

[personal profile] myrrhmade made me a Rue icon! Innit pretty?

Not so pretty: a whole bunch of people showing their ass on Twitter because they didn't realize Rue is black. Even though she is explicitly described in the book as having dark brown skin. So dear readers, you're not only being racist, you're also being counter textual. My favourite tweet (for a given value of favourite) was the one that said he'd pictured Rue as an "innocent looking blonde girl" and instead she was played by a little black girl. Because I guess little black girls can't look innocent? I know Feministe is a problematic source, but the only other source I found was the Huffington Post, which is even more problematic. So you're getting the Feministe version.

On Trayvon Martin, George Zimmerman, and due process.

How the Daily Mail Conquered England.

And [personal profile] researchgrrrl has thinky thoughts about Dr. John Watson being ambidextrous.

Finally, an awesome review from [personal profile] skygiants of Terry Pratchett's Lords and Ladies (spoiler)
