Calling all with Canadian childhoods. I’m trying to remember the name of a kids’ show that used to air on the CBC which was set partly in the real world, and partly in a sort of magic-and-monsters fairytale realm. The premise of the show was that the main character, a young boy, had been injured and fallen into a coma. In the real world he was in hospital, in the magic-and-monsters realm he was on a heroic journey to rescue his father (who’d mysteriously disappeared in the real world, and was a captive in the fairytale realm). If memory serves, there was an evil queen, played by a girl in her early teens. I realize this sounds like absolute pablum, but when I was about 11 I thought it was the best show on TV. I just wish I could remember its name.

So, I went to Starbucks yesterday, and they’re now making you watch a video about American Express credit cards before you can access their “complimentary” wi-fi. As if they’re not making enough money from selling overpriced caffeinated beverages. I am thoroughly disgruntled, and contemplating switching my allegiance to Blenz Coffee. At least Blenz isn’t so set on monetizing every spare penny that they won’t give you wi-fi without commercials. Maybe what Starbucks is doing is the wave of the future, and soon other retailers who currently offer free wi-fi will soon follow their example. If so, I want no part in it. Grumble, grumble. I’m turning into a grumpy old lady at the advanced age of 37.

Edited to Add: The show was called "The Odyssey". Thanks, everybody.

I remember having seen that show on Swedish tv! But sadly I have no clue what it was called.

The Odyssey! featuring Ryan Reynolds as a brainless baddie, and many other Canadian Actor Bingo regulars. I remember that show.

It ended up on RTE children's programming as well. And I think ITV.

We got a lot of Canadian and Australian children's television. Round the Twist traumatised several of my friends for life.
